1. Start>>All Programs>>Accessories
2. Click Paint
3. In toolbar select Image
4. Click Attributes

5. Type 32 in both Height and Width and sure that Pixels is selected under Units
6. Click OK
7. Now add your photo or design .
8. File>>Save As
9. Type name.ico

Due to some unavoidable circumstances, many people spend hours in front of their computer, yet experience a jolt when they lose a word document, their hard work, unexpectedly. Reason- there may have been power failure or it may be a result of their carelessness of not saving it immediately. This makes them feel helpless and frustrated. They do not know what to do. But now, you need not worry for even a grave problem as this can be solved and any loss of files from Microsoft word document can be retrieved.
How to Auto Recover Microsoft Word File
Move to the word option[Microsoft Word 2007] from the word menu and shift to Advanced tab, where you will come across many boxes that are not checked. Look for Always Create Back-up copy and then Allow background Saves. This will help you re-store all your files instantly. The back-up files of word are saved as:- .wbk extension.
So, don’t get tensed if you lose your files by mistake, they can always be restores through the back-up copy.
SEARCH IN YOUR TEMPORARY FILES.
You have two very easy ways of obtaining the word file from this method. You either check on your user application data or search the temporary folder.

I have come across some websites that i wanted to save the page for later review. I found that i was having some problems with certain sites. I found a way around it.
what you need:adobe acrobat 6 pro or better

When we browse images in the explorer, the thumbnail size of the picture's is too small or too big and the quality of the thumbnail is not good, it is possible to make our own thumbnail size and make the thumbnails display in high quaility.
To do this it is required to edit the registry, so it is better to make the registry backup.
1. open the registry editor - start->run-> regedit
2. navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft \ Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer
3. create two new DWord Value by right clicking and select "new->DWORD value" and name one as "ThumbnailSize" and other as "ThumbnailQuality"

Trick is all About :
You can create Virtual Drives in your Computer. Now you can access your Favorite Folders as a drive in My Computer.
What you can do ?
** Access your folders as a Drive !
** Fool 'Computer Beginners' or your 'Friends' (Non-Expert) , as the drive will show Disk Space of the folder's drive so it seems that the disk space has increased !!!
Do The Follwing :
► Start >> Run
► Type cmd and hit Enter
► This will open "Command Prompt"
► Type subst Z: E:\folder and hit Enter key.
→ You can replace Z: with your desired New Drive Letter (Except existing Drive letters)!
→ You can replace E:\folder with the path of your favorite folder !
► Now, type exit
*** This creates a new drive ! When you open this , it will open your folder !!!

Sticky Menus
Normally when you move the mouse over the Start Menu / Programs, it will automatically cascade and show the submenus.
If you want them to open only when you actually click on them:
Start Regedit
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop
If if it not already there, create a string called MenuShowDelay
Give it a value of 65534
Disable the Security Center warnings
Security is a system of safeguards designed to protect a computer system and important data from damage or access by unauthorized persons. Different antivirus and firewall programs are used to manage the security of the computer. Some time this is build-in antivirus or firewall program in windows XP to maintain the computer security. But if your windows is not provided with any antivirus, firewall program and Automatic Updates, your windows security center will alerts you a message "Your computer may be at risk. Your virus protection status is unknown" with useless repeating reminder. You can disable this message permanently by changing the values of “AntiVirusDisableNotify” in windows registry.
Follow the given steps to edit the computer registry for disable message:
- First click on Start button then type Regedit in Run option.
- Here locate the location to:
· HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center
- Here in right side panel, double click on AntiVirusDisableNotify and set its value 1.
Now close the registry editor and restart your computer after any changes to go into effect.
Displaying a Text Notice before Logon
You can create a funny message or legal warnings for others just before logon to your computer. This is very useful if you want to give a message to new user about the use of computer. Edit the value of registry keys to create a banner message.
Click Start button then type regedit in Run option then press Enter for next.
Here locate the location to:
HKeyLocalMachine \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Win Logon
Here in right side panel, right click to create a new string value LegalNoticeCaption and give it a value you want to see in the menu bar
Now again right click to create a new string value called LegalNoticeText and change the value you want to see in the dialog box
Now close the registry editor and restart your computer after any changes to go into effect.
Short cut for shutdown and Restart on desktop
On the desktop right click ----> New----> shortcut .
In the location area type (without quotes) "shutdown -r" to reboot, "shutdown -l" to logout, "shutdown -s" to shutdown.
In the name for the shortcut type in any name you are comfortable with e.g SHUTDOWN or RESTART etc.
Click Finish and its done.
Now double-click the icon created to perform the actions

By this tweak, you will be able to disable the right click on the desktop or any icons/files/folders/applications... But right click will work on taskbar of the start button and registry. So, dont worry!!!
Open your registry and you will see all unknown files like HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT....... and so on. Don't panic. Follow this path. HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENT VERSION>POLICIES>EXPLORER. On the right side of the registry, you will see two files(in general) named 'default' and 'NoDriveTypeAutoRun'. Right click on the empty space in the registry and goto New>DWORD VALUE and name it as "NoViewContextMenu". Remember, no spaces and N,V,C,M should be capitals. Right click on this and click modify. The default value will be 0. Change it to 1. Note: DONOT CHANGE THE HEXADECIMAL TO DECIMAL. Click OK. Close your registry and logout. Bingo!!! Once you login again, right click wont work. Your friend will be perplexed and the next thing he/she does is call the system administrator not knowing that not all system administrators will be knowing about registry. Now, to enable it again. follow the same path and set the value to 0. Logout and then login to see the effect.
2) Reverse the mouse buttons
This is a cool trick to play on newbies. Actually, there are two ways to do this. One is changing the settings in the Control panel and the other is through editing registry. You can do it either way. But I prefer the second way, which is challenging.
(i) Through Control Panel - goto Start> Control Panel> Printers and other hardware> Mouse. In Button configuration, enable the switch primary and secondary buttons option and click OK. But remember, you have just swapped the mouse buttons. So, for OK, you have to click the right mouse button. The newbie will be perplexed. Well, this trick is good for left handers.
(ii) Editing the registry - By default the left mouse button is the primary and the right is secondary. Open your registry and follow this path:
HLEY_CURRENT_USER>Control Panel>Mouse and on the right side of the registry, create this String value(REG_SZ): 'SwapMouseButtons' and set its value to 1. Bingo!!! You are done. Log out/Restart the computer.
You can try this: Combine tricks 1 and 2. That means, this will result in swapping of the mouse buttons and disabling the left click(once the buttons are swapped). User is ready to call system administrator cuz he feels that the system is behaving wildly.

I m here to tell u a trick to add up ur name in place of AM and PM beside time and make urself to feel proud among ur group of frnds.
Its simple
Start -> Control Pannel -> Regional and LAnguage option -> Customize (beside English US) -> Go to TIME tab -> Change AM symbol and PM symbol from AM and PM to ur name -> Apply -> Ok ...
IS it changed ??? Might be not ...Now go to time in taskbar and Double Click it to open "Date and time property" ...Look place where time chnges in digital form i.e. 02:47:52 AM , click to arrow to cnage the AM or PM by selecting and press arrow. It will Show ur name or name that was entered by u, Apply -> OK and be HAPPY 8)

2. Then, hold the disc with one hand, use the other to wipe the polish into the affected area with a soft cloth.
3. Wait for it to dry and buff using short, brisk strokes along the scratch, not across it.
4. A cloth sold to wipe spectacles or camera lenses will work super m8's.
5. When you can no longersee the scratch,, wash the disc with water and let it dry before playing. Intersting isnt it? Try it right now
I have used toothpaste with good effects before Ive also used car paint cutting compound on deeper scratches. It does leave lots of smaller scratches (as it is a cutting compound after all) but it will remove the worst scratches in most cases.

It is all to do with a limitation in Windows. Text files containing Unicode UTF-16-encoded Unicode are supposed to start with a "Byte-Order Mark" (BOM), which is a two-byte flag that tells a reader how the following UTF-16 data is encoded.
1) You are saving to 8-bit Extended ASCII (Look at the Save As / Encoding format)
2) You are reading from 16-bit UNICODE (You guessed it, look at the Save As / Encoding format)
This is why the 18 8-bit characters are being displayed as 9 (obviously not supported by your code page) 16-bit UNICODE characters
Changing Header and Footer

Windows XP registry tweaks
Most settings can be done easily within Windows. However, for some setting you need to dive into the registry or use one of the many registry tweak utilities (like the Windows XP powertool TWEAKUI). On this page (and other pages), I have described some interesting registry tweaks which you can do yourself, using the registry editor.
NOTE: Be careful editing the registry. Worst case scenario: Windows won't boot anymore. If you are not sure, leave things unchanged! My advise: create a system image before making major changes!
Speed up browsing AVI files (audio/video)
By default, opening folders containing AVI files (audio/video) can be very slow because Windows is trying to extract non important information. This can be solved, by deleting the following key:

Automatically expanding folder trees
The folder view on the left in Windows Explorer automatically expands if you click on a folder containing sub-folders. You can disable this function with a registry tweak: change the DWORD-valueFriendlyTree to 0 (in stead of 1) in the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Automatically expanding folders will be disabled, expanding a folder is now done by double clicking the folder.
Windows search optimization
Within Windows XP you are able to search your computer for files (Start, Search), but takes some clicking to get what you want! To optimize the search function, you have to make some registry changes. To make changes, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
where you will find some important DWORD-values. Change these values to optimize your Windows search:
SearchSystemDirs=1
SearchHidden=1
IncludeSubFolders=1

Remove shared folders My Computer
To remove the shared folders in the My Computer view, delete the value {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee} in the following key (export to a reg-file first, to have a backup):

Saving Notepad settings

Disable the balloon tips
Already irritated by the information balloons, covering the important buttons in the Start Menu? Start the registry editor and navigate to the following key:

Disabling the blocking of pop-ups from secured sites
By default Internet Explorer blocks the pop-ups because they are mostly used for irritating advertising purposes. For secured pages (e.g. the login to a bankaccount), this behavior is not wished. The URL of a secured page is preceded by HTTPS in stead of HTTP. The blocking of pop-ups for these HTTPS-pages can be disabled by changing the DWORD-value Allow HTTPS to 1 in the following registerkey:

Command Console tweak
If you are a frequent user of the Command Console (the MS-DOS screen, Start, Run, commandCMD), the following tweak will be valuable. To change folders is difficult, using the Command Console. By changing the DWORD-value CompletionChar to 9 in the following registry key

Activated NUM-LOCK

Automatically defrag system files
To defrag the system files automatically at every boot (to optimize you system), change the value Enableto Y in the following registry key:

A faster Windows shutdown
Shutting down Windows can take a long time. You can speed this up (at your own risk) with the following tweaks in the registry key:

Fix for shutting down your computer automatically
In most cases, automatically shutting down can be fixed by installing the motherboard drivers (if not done already). If your computer still doesn't shut down correctly, try this registry tweak. Change the valuePowerdownAfterShutdown to 1 in the following key:

Fix for shutting down Windows slowly (or not at all)
If shutting down Windows takes a long time (or doesn't shut down at all), change the valuePowerOffActive to 1 in the following registry key:

Finding out the reason of a Windows crash
If you would like to know the reason why there was a sudden crash of Windows, change the DWORD-value ShutdownReasonUI temporarily to 1 in the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability
After a reboot you will find the reason why your Windows shuts down suddenly in the log files (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Logfiles). If you are finished analyzing, change the valueShutdownReasonUI back to 0.
A faster NTFS file system
You probably use the NTFS file system (see the properties of your C: partition). You can improve performance by making some changes in the following registry key:

DisableNTFSLastAccessUpdate = 1 (last file access is no longer registered).
NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation = 1 (no more double filenames: long names and the old 8.3 variant (the 8.3 file notation is used for the older Windows versions).
NtfsMftZoneReservation = 2 (if there are many files on a partition, the master file table (MFT) can get fragmented, with this tweak there will be no more fragmenting of the file master file table (default value = 1, range 1-4).

Create a Password Protected Folder Without Any Special Software
Now, here we will see how to create a folder that will not just be invisible, but also require a password to reveal it and open it. The best part is that you don’t need any special software to do this. Just plain old Notepad is all that you need.

Now here is what you need to do:
Just copy the above code and paste it into Notepad. Save it by giving it any name you choose. Assuming, the file is called secret.txt, change the extension to ‘.bat‘ so that the new name becomessecret.bat. What you get is a batch file. You could actually save one step by saving the file in Notepad directly as secret.bat by enclosing the file name like this: “secret.bat” . This batch file is the one that you need. You can edit this batch file to change the folder name and the password. To change the name of the folder that is created, change the ‘Personal’ (in bold in the above code) to any another name you choose. Likewise change the ‘pwd123′ (in red in the code) to anything else.
Now let’s see how to use it. Place the file in the location where you would like to create your protected folder. Run the batch file by double clicking on it. This will create a folder named Personal in the same location as the batch file. You can now open this folder and place any files in it. Once you are finished, run the batch file again. You will be asked whether you want to lock the folder. Entry ‘Y’ (for Yes) and hit Enter. The folder becomes invisible. To retrieve the folder, run the batch file again. You will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password, hit enter and voila! the folder appears.
Important: The batch file acts like a key to open the locked folder. So once you have created and locked a folder, do not keep the batch file in the same location since anybody can open the batch file and view your password. So I would suggest that you keep the batch file in a separate and safe place or better still keep it on your pen drive or flash drive. That way when you want to open the folder just copy the batch file to the location where you have your protected folder and run it.
Do remember that the above method is not intended to act as a substitute for the numerous free and commercial softwares that are specifically designed to provide security and encryption to your data.

You have several options to try and get around this problem.
If you have access to another user account with administrator rights, you can use that account to change the password of the account that is locked out. You can also use the default Administrator account that is built into Windows XP.
First you need to boot the system into Safe Mode.
- Restart your system.
- When you see the blue screen, press the ( F8 ) key about 3 times a second.
- You should get the Windows startup menu. Use the (Up or Down) arrow keys to highlight (SafeMode).
- Press (Enter) on (Safe Mode), then press (Enter) on (Windows XP).
- The system should boot to Safe Mode.

With WinHacker it was possible to create an expanding Control Panel in the Start Menu, but something went wrong and I got one without a name.
I wanted to recreate that and I did.

Create a Password Protected Folder Without Any Special Software
Now, here we will see how to create a folder that will not just be invisible, but also require a password to reveal it and open it. The best part is that you don’t need any special software to do this. Just plain old Notepad is all that you need.
Here is the code that you need:

Now here is what you need to do:
Just copy the above code and paste it into Notepad. Save it by giving it any name you choose. Assuming, the file is called secret.txt, change the extension to ‘.bat‘ so that the new name becomessecret.bat. What you get is a batch file. You could actually save one step by saving the file in Notepad directly as secret.bat by enclosing the file name like this: “secret.bat” . This batch file is the one that you need. You can edit this batch file to change the folder name and the password. To change the name of the folder that is created, change the ‘Personal’ (in bold in the above code) to any another name you choose. Likewise change the ‘pwd123′ (in red in the code) to anything else.
Now let’s see how to use it. Place the file in the location where you would like to create your protected folder. Run the batch file by double clicking on it. This will create a folder named Personal in the same location as the batch file. You can now open this folder and place any files in it. Once you are finished, run the batch file again. You will be asked whether you want to lock the folder. Entry ‘Y’ (for Yes) and hit Enter. The folder becomes invisible. To retrieve the folder, run the batch file again. You will be prompted to enter the password. Enter the password, hit enter and voila! the folder appears.
Important: The batch file acts like a key to open the locked folder. So once you have created and locked a folder, do not keep the batch file in the same location since anybody can open the batch file and view your password. So I would suggest that you keep the batch file in a separate and safe place or better still keep it on your pen drive or flash drive. That way when you want to open the folder just copy the batch file to the location where you have your protected folder and run it.
Do remember that the above method is not intended to act as a substitute for the numerous free and commercial softwares that are specifically designed to provide security and encryption to your data.

Due to the security features built into Windows XP, it is virtually impossible to get back into the system without the password.
You have several options to try and get around this problem.
If you have access to another user account with administrator rights, you can use that account to change the password of the account that is locked out. You can also use the default Administrator account that is built into Windows XP.
First you need to boot the system into Safe Mode.
- Restart your system.
- When you see the blue screen, press the ( F8 ) key about 3 times a second.
- You should get the Windows startup menu. Use the (Up or Down) arrow keys to highlight (SafeMode).
- Press (Enter) on (Safe Mode), then press (Enter) on (Windows XP).
- The system should boot to Safe Mode.

ADDING APPLICATION TO THE RIGHT CLICK
Here is how to add any application to the Context Menu when you right click on any Folder. This way you do not have to always go to the Start Menu. When you right click on any folder, you can have access to that application, the same as using Sent To.

4. Give it a default value that will appear when you right click a folder, i.e. NewKey (use an "&" without the quotes, in front of any character and it will allow you to use the keyboard)

6. Add a New Key named Command
7. Set the (Default) value of the application you want to run
8. For example: c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (Include the full path and parameters if you need them)
